Intellectual property rights protecting peasant/native seeds

 -Farmers may keep own seeds, but may not gift/exchange/sell

-Farmers who are caught selling farm-saved seeds which have not been formally registered can face harsh punishments such as steep fines or jail time

-2011, violent govt crackdowns on unregistered seed stores

-State has right to destroy farmers’ seeds if they do not register them
