Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee

The Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee (PKRC) is a network of 27 small farmers' organizations and the the only member-organization of La Via Campesina in Pakistan since 2017.

PKRC was established in 2003 during a conference attended by over 5,000 small farmers in Chishtian, a city in Bahawalnagar district in Punjab Province, to unite forces among peasants in Pakistan.

The decision to form a peasant-based national organization stemmed from the 2000 to 2001 successful land rights campaign of the peasantry at the more than 17,000-acre military-controlled farms in Punjab’s Okara District, which were being cultivated by farmers for over a century.

The organization’s land rights, food sovereignty, and climate justice campaigns have since spread across Pakistan, with some of the largest peasant conferences successfuly organized by PKRC in different parts of the country.
