Social Need Education and Human Awareness (SNEHA)
Formed in 1984, SNEHA’s work covers villages in the coastal districts of Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu and Karaikal in Pondicherry (India) and has gained momentum in the last several years due to changes in the macro-economic policy in the fisheries sector.
SNEHA has reached fisherfolk and other coastal-dependent communities (including Dalits) who are dependent on coast for their life and livelihood and fisheries allied activities. SNEHA facilitates the processes of empowerment through training, information dissemination, enabling participation in decision-making, creating awareness through literacy and involving in participatory research to raise micro level issue to the macro policy level.
The main focus of SNEHA has been women and children. SNEHA has facilitated the formation of community-based organisations such as Women Sangams, Self Help Groups, Taluk, and District Level Federations were promoted for the empowerment of women. https://snehangt.com/about-us/
