This article first describes how aquaculture has rapidly become the fastest growing food industry and most attractive investment opportunity for capital markets today. It then sheds light on the human, social and environmental cost of aquaculture’s ten-fold increase in production over the last four decades.

Lastly, selected case studies demonstrate the negative impacts on the livelihood of small-scale fishers in India, Thailand, and Ecuador.
