Gaza Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Platform (GUPAP)
The Gaza Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Platform (GUPAP), launched in 2013, consists of a multi-stakeholder, interactive and participatory forum that brings together key actors involved in the development of a resilient Palestinian agricultural sector in the Gaza Strip.
GUPAP is currently made up of about 80 members, including national and local government Institutions; Non-Governmental Civil Institutions; women organizations/cooperatives & activists, the Private Sector; Research and Educational Institutions; Micro-Finance Institutions, Urban Women Agripreneurs, & Value Chain Forums. GUPAP is a member of key relevant policy and exchange platforms and networks at national, regional and global levels.
GUPAP’s strategic goals are the following:
- Consolidate the function of GUPAP.
- Influence local and national (and where relevant regional and international) agriculture food security, economic, local governance, and other policies that bear on the development of sustainable and resilient urban agriculture in the Gaza Strip.
- Consolidate the establishment of an information source center on urban agriculture to facilitate broad user access to information from the Gaza Strip, Palestine, and other (Arab-speaking) countries.
- Facilitate and strengthen institutional capacities and innovations in urban and peri-urban agriculture.
