ROPPA- West African Network of Peasants and Agricultural Producers

ROPPA is an initiative from farmers’ organizations and agricultural producers across West Africa. It comprises 13 member national farmer organizations (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Bissau Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo) and associated member farmer organizations (Cap-Verde, Nigeria).
Since its inception in June 2000, in Cotonou, ROPPA has positioned itself as the tool of defense and promotion of family farms that constitute the key system of agricultural, forestry and pastoral production in West Africa. Its functioning dwells among others on farmer solidarity that gives a place to each by associating all the categories of Farmer Organizations and Agricultural Producers in each country and that supports farmers’ organizations and agricultural producers and their members in the recognition of their identity, their rights and roles. Consensus is chosen as a privileged procedure to decide and act together and transparency to report and ensure on regular basis the renewal of their mandates.
