    Participation is one of the fundamental human rights principles, requiring that everyone has the right to participate in making decisions that affect them. In order to ensure that those most affected by violations to the right to food and nutrition participate in political processes, it is essential to have the legal and policy infrastructure within national frameworks, as well as the participatory spaces that give meaningful space for participation.

      The Constitution of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire implicitly guarantees the right to adequate food through broader human rights. 

      The Republic of Côte d'Ivoire has become a State party to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in 1992 by way of accession. 

      CONSTITUTIONAL RECOGNITIONS OF THE RIGHT TO ADEQUATE FOOD

      Implicit protection of the right to adequate food

      Article 6 : « L'Etat assure la protection des enfants, des personnes âgées et des personnes handicapées. »

      Article 7 : « Tout être humain a droit au développement et au plein épanouissement de sa personnalité dans ses dimensions matérielle, intellectuelle et spirituelle. L'Etat assure à tous les citoyens l'égal accès à la santé, à l'éducation, à la culture, à l'information, à la formation professionnelle et à l'emploi. »

      National status of international obligations

      Article 87 : « Les Traités ou Accords régulièrement ratifiés ont, dès leur publication, une autorité supérieure à celle des lois, sous réserve, pour chaque Traité ou Accord, de son application par l'autre partie. »
